Badami, often referred to as the “Cradle of South Indian Architecture”, is a beautiful place to put on your “India To Do List”. It is located on the banks of the Malprabha River, in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, in southern India.

People often don’t know what to do in Badami other than visiting the red stone cave temples. This list will help you to know the things you can do in this beautiful place.

1. Enjoy the rare beauty of the cave temples, a series of four rock-cut cave temples, carved into a hill.

2. Visit the Badami Archaeological Museum, located on the north side of Lake Agasthya.

3. Visit Badami Fort perched on top of a hill about 2 km. from the town, and enjoy the carved temple that stands atop the northern end of the hill.

4. Visit the Banashankari temple, 5 km from the city, built in Dravidian style.

5. Visit Naganath Temple, which is one of the ancient Chalukyan temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, located 10 km away.

6. Visit the ancient Mahakuteshwara temple of Lord Shiva, located 14 km from Badami. Relax by the natural spring pond called Vishnu Pushkarni.

7. Visit the world heritage site of temples at Pattadakkal, built in the 7th and 8th centuries, located 29 km away. These magnificent temples are built representing a wonderful mix of North and South Indian architecture.

8. Visit the wonderful temples of Aihole, 45 km from Badami, built between the 6th and 8th centuries by Chalukyas.
