I have been performing mentalism and mentalism tricks on people for years and it took me a long time to realize something very important about performing them on women if you really want to impress them. There was an occasion from which I learned the most and I am going to share the story with you.

A couple of years ago I was at a party at a friend’s house. Naturally, as with most gatherings I attend, some of my friends begged me to do some tricks for the guests. I say begged because they know I only act when I’m in the mood to do it. Although I am an artist by nature, to be honest, sometimes I just can’t be bothered and I don’t take kindly to people expecting me to act like a monkey when they want me to.

To me, mind reading and mentalism are a little more special than randomly “doing a trick” every time someone asks you to. I believe in the viewers experience and if I don’t think the mood is right, I won’t act. That being said, this time I felt the timing was right, it probably had to do with 70% of the attendees being pretty beautiful women and one in particular really caught my eye… so anyway…

I decided I would DO a mind read. I thought this would be a great way to get the attention of these young ladies.

So I sat at a large table in the kitchen surrounded by about 10 people and more importantly the young lady I had my eye on and proceeded to warm up with some ESP test cards and guessing correctly which symbol from ESP had chosen each volunteer. He could feel the spectators getting excited. I then moved on to some card mind reading which involved reading the minds of the volunteers and correctly guessing which card they chose. I also mixed in a bit of pseudo-psychological influence for good measure.

I could see that everything was going great and the important viewer was probably showing the most interest, asking me to ‘do the next thing’… read her mind, that is. Regardless, what happened next confused me for a good few days.

I decided I’d try a cold reading technique I’d learned earlier that day, which involved asking them for a very general statement to hit, and have a miracle and fail, where I could ignore it as something. what could happen in the future. For those of you who don’t know, cold reading is what psychics primarily use when giving one-on-one demonstrations of “psychic ability” to people they’ve just met. So I said “Where is the broken door?”

She looked at me puzzled, “What do you mean?”

So I said it again, “Where’s the broken door?”

Her bewilderment turned to outright shock, and she ran out of the kitchen, screaming to tell her best friend that she was in another room. I found her in the other room explaining to her friend what she had just said and it was impossible for me to tell. I found out that literally the week before, she had been locked in her bathroom because the lock on the door was faulty and she had to call her housemate to help her. I had done a miracle.

I was almost shaking with excitement, but my excitement was very short-lived when, for the rest of the night, she didn’t come near me because ‘he was too weird’. Great… she thought I was a freak.

So the moral of the story and to end this is to be very careful what you play and who you play it on. If you’re trying to impress most women, don’t completely freak them out, unless the girl is a little weird, they probably won’t enjoy it. I have found that the reason is that if they believe you are truly psychic, they feel naked and exposed and cannot relax around you. This is probably why I do not claim to be psychic and instead perform ‘psychological tests’.

Either way, experience will tell you which tricks are suitable for which people. I have a trick in the last mind reading manual I wrote called Stigmata 2.0 and it’s so powerful I usually only do it on the right people. I’ve scared a few women with it, let me tell you, but then again, I’ve got some numbers too.

I hope you can learn something from my story and think of your mind reading tricks to make them really special.
