The cities of Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead are simply breathtaking. You could spend weeks walking and hiking these beautiful mountains. Of course, in winter, the beauty turns white and many people come to the mountains to ski and snowboard.
Stop by the Big Bear Discovery Center to pick up hiking and biking maps. There are trails for both beginners and very experienced hikers. Trails are offered for one-mile hikes as well as 13-mile hikes. The landscape is beautiful.
If you like animals, the Moonridge Animal Park is a must see in Big Bear. There are birds, lynxes, and more. The zoo tries to take out an animal every day for an up-close and personal visit. You can also follow one of the keepers as they feed the animals every day.
Have children? The alpine slide is a must for those with children. During the summer months there is a waterslide and in the winter months there are snow activities for the whole family. You start with a scenic chairlift ride to the top. There are many photo opportunities as you climb to the top. Once at the top, you will have your own individually controlled sled, which you can dismount at your choice from two quarter-mile long concrete tracks full of turns with steep slopes and long straights.
I have fond memories of when I went to Santa’s Village as a kid. Every summer we would spend a few weeks in Lake Arrowhead and always take a day to visit Santa’s Village.
