1. Think if you could make changes.

To improve your work-life balance, you’ll need to make a difference in your work practice. You must adopt a change mindset and decide that you are willing to try something different. If his response to any thought of change immediately rejects it because he believes everything has to continue as before, then it will be difficult for him to achieve the work-life balance he would like.

2. Do things you hadn’t considered before.

There’s an old saying that reminds you that if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting the results you’ve always gotten. Another saying is that to get out of the box you have to read the instructions written on the outside of the box. This means that it is important to be open to new ideas and be willing to try something very different. For example, you may think that you have to stay at work until a certain time when, in reality, if you announce that you are leaving earlier, setting new boundaries won’t be as difficult as you imagined.

3. Keep up with your projects.

Of course, as a busy doctor, you will have all sorts of tasks to complete, not only related to patient care, but also carrying out your research projects, keeping up with reading journals, interacting with colleagues, patient admission and emergency care.
Having a perfect work-life balance means it’s important to allocate time for all of these things and also have time for a life outside of medicine.

4. Only promise what you can actually do.

This is a very important limit to put in place. The problem with being a doctor is that you may find that throughout the day you are bombarded with requests to do this or see that patient or talk to someone on the phone. It is very important not to accept all requests. Just say yes to what you can do right away or in the near future. With other requests, suggest that someone else could fulfill what is required, or that the request comes to you later when you are not as busy.

5. Energize yourself.

Organized to do all your chores and have the energy and motivation to do things other than medical work you need to take much better care of yourself. As always, this means eating healthy foods on a regular basis and not poisoning your body with excess alcohol and high-fat foods with little nutritional value.

When you start following these five golden rules, you’ll start to notice how your work-life balance improves.
