For believers in a ‘Higher Power’ of whatever nuance, there must be times when one wonders if that heavenly body ever loses patience with what goes on below.
Just imagine that said entity, after creating a magical gift like planet Earth, balks at the mere sight of the inflicted destruction created by today’s human rulers.
So imagine, if you will, Earth designed to be the epitome of perfection, with deep blue oceans, teeming with purifying marine life, corals, and fauna.
The lush green pastures and forests, a veritable playground for animals of all kinds to play and multiply.
And a sky, lovingly painted in an infinite pastel of blue. The Sun, positioned to cover the world in daylight. His health gives the rays a source of energy, vitamins, and radiation to promote growth essential to plant life on Earth.
Then, to offer a touch of cheer, brightly colored birds were added to fly freely over the thermals chirping and singing their own sweet song.
Insects of all shapes and sizes, who also have fun cleaning and grooming the soil, while ‘Mother Nature’ employs them as her little pollen carriers to fertilize the eagerly awaiting flowers.
Finally, man and woman came to the world in human form. With a purpose, they were first made humble, introduced as one more species in this vast orb of paradise.
But humans had not been created equal, far from it. They were enhanced in their powers by highly dexterous hands and a powerful brain, capable of ever-widening thought and development. Human beings, by design, were meant to evolve, flourish, and ultimately achieve dominance over the planet.
In fact they flourished for countless centuries. Through trial and error and the use of ingenuity, humans conquered the arts of cultivation, breeding, and propagation. This set them apart from other species, now they could not only create food, but also store it for when they needed it.
Thus, humans could focus their powerful minds on an ever-widening scale. However, over time, the human drive to improve the world began to lose its way. Progress went awry in the search for false gods called money and power.
The simple basics of life, as initially created for beauty, necessity, or utility, were being abused in the pursuit of profit. The true purpose of evolution is corrupted through neglect, or as mere collateral damage from man’s short-term goals.
So by now, ‘Heavenly Body’ believers should not be criticized for wondering if some of the world’s natural disasters weren’t somehow an early warning of unpleasantness as if thrown from on high?
The words: “Don’t push your luck too far, humans!” She comes to mind.
But such actions in the past were favorably a regional problem, while now life-threatening pollution and abuse encircles the globe. Those original blue oceans are now awash in debris. Lush green pastures and forests, plundered for minerals, or stripped to return ever-increasing profits to ‘The Man’.
Originally, human leaders were men of vision who nurtured the land while thanking it for its blessings. Such men of wisdom are now sadly gone, and in their place sit close-minded, power-hungry, wealth-addicted men of money.
Some remarkably unhelpful caretakers, lacking in intellect, or simply devoid of interest, actually lecture on the beauty of power and wealth. With their heads held high and their chests puffed out, they defend how the final value of the world is calculated in the monetary representation of a long line of zeros on a computer screen.
So, all things considered, who would blame the ‘Higher Power’ who dismisses such useless views for taking any action? How can such deaf, dumb and blind men of power be made to see that they are leading the world down the wrong path?
Subtle warnings from the past have come and gone to no avail, Mother Nature has displayed her power in many ways in recent years, but no change in direction seems to be forthcoming.
Has the time finally come for a ‘Final Warning’ to come from on high?
For my part, I can almost hear the words of the heavens…
“Send the Covid-19!”
