More than we read about morning sickness, we have heard a lot about it from many pregnant women. Morning sickness is an unpleasant accessory to pregnancy. This is probably nature’s way of preparing a woman for the eventual difficulties that she will soon face. Studies reveal that 80% of pregnant women suffer from morning sickness during pregnancy. Although it is an irritable health condition, it does not cause any harm to the mother and child in most cases unless the symptoms are extremely severe.

What is morning sickness?

Despite the word for “morning,” it is not necessary that this condition occurs only in the morning. It can affect pregnant women at any time of the day. Surprisingly, it can even be in the middle of a night. This can include nausea and vomiting or just the feeling of vomiting without the actual vomiting. Although I have heard many women complain of this discomfort until the fifth month, it is more common in the first trimester of the gestation period. But few women can have this even in their third trimester. Call a doctor if there are persistently extreme symptoms, if you have very little or dark urine, if you feel weak or dizzy, and if you notice blood in your vomit and high heart rate.

Here are some ways you can get some relief from your morning sickness:

Divide your food into several small portions.: Nausea is worse if the stomach is empty. Eating small portions of your food often helps balance blood sugar levels. Keep nutritious snacks on the side to eat throughout the day. If they vomit, large meals are wasteful without serving the purpose, and therefore they opt for smaller ones.

Opt for a diet rich in protein: Consume foods that are easily digestible and are rich in protein and vitamin B. Keep oily, acidic and spicy foods away as such contents can lead to nausea.

Choose cold food to avoid cooking odors: I was on the alert during my pregnancy days when garlic was used for cooking and boiling. It used to drive me crazy. Cold foods do not give off the aroma of food like hot foods do. This calms the nausea to a certain extent. Keep eating cold foods until your nausea becomes a cloud.

Increase drinks between meals: If you have difficulty keeping fluids down, avoid drinking them with meals. However, add fluids between meals as it is essential to stay hydrated during pregnancy.

Smell the scent of citrus or ginger: Citrus fruits like lemon, orange, and sweet lime can help ease the feeling of vomiting. Ginger also works in a similar way if you smell it. Add lemon and ginger to your green tea or black tea to get rid of nausea.

Keep perfumes and odors away.: Surprisingly, perfumes and aromatic odors cause nausea. Body odors are quite irritating as I didn’t like my husband’s body odor which I used to like a lot. The poor creature had to always be away from me. Avoiding them can help you improve.

Take prescription anti-nausea tic pills: Take a suggestion from your doctor about using anti-nausea pills if you have too many problems or nausea persists even after the first trimester.

get a fresh breath: Go out and take a fresh breath in a garden or greenery. Avoid areas with abundant flowers, as the pollen can set off the nauseating tic elements in you. A cool breeze can take the edge off nausea. Try to discover these tips to conquer morning sickness. Understand that this is a temporary element and you will see days with perfectly rising sun. Enduring this discomfort would prepare you for the toughness needed when you become a mother.
