Learning to drive a golf ball further is something almost every golfer wants. Sure, you bet on the mass, but let’s not leave ego out of the equation. All golfers love to hit a long shot off the tee. It’s much more impressive to fellow golfers than making a twenty food putt.

If you want to know how to drive a golf ball further, there are some important tips you’ll need to understand.

1) Don’t hit the golf ball. I know, it sounds strange, doesn’t it? however, it is true. Instead, you want to make sure you are swinging THROUGH the golf ball. The ball just gets in the way of your swing.

If you focus on making contact with the ball, you may not be able to pass and finish your swing as you should.

2) Don’t swing so hard. A harder swing doesn’t necessarily mean a longer golf drive. The correct form is extremely important.

It is very similar to baseball. If you’ve ever seen the Phillies’ Chase Utley hit, you know exactly what I mean. He has a short, compact swing that looks very easy. He sure isn’t using a typical “home run swing.” And yet, he very well could lead the majors in home runs this year.

But it’s not about the strength of your swing. It’s all about how and when the bat meets the ball. In our case, it is the driver who meets the ball.

3) Relax. This goes along with not swinging as hard. If your muscles are tight because you’re focused on really breaking your tee shot, you won’t be able to generate much power.

This time I will use the tennis serve as an example. Tennis players with a smooth, loose serving motion and good timing are the ones to hit powerful serves.

If you’re tense when you hit a serve, you don’t get the wrist snap (which makes a lot of power) or smooth follow through.

The same is true in golf. You need to let your muscles relax and swing properly.

If you want to know how to drive a golf ball further, pay attention to these three tips.
