If you have a large outdoor patio or living room, you may have considered installing outdoor rugs; which can greatly contribute to your comfort. You will see that most outdoor rugs are produced from synthetic fibers such as olefin or polypropylene. In addition, there are outdoor rugs made of natural fibers such as jute or burlap. The types differ mainly in the way they are manufactured or constructed. They consist of grass, needle, awl and loop. Most people are familiar with the type of indoor and outdoor carpet grass, because it is green and made to look like grass; however, you can get the grass mat in other colors like blue and many other colors. Some may look quite wild, but what you need to remember is that you can find another color in addition to green.

Some uses for outdoor rugs are around hot tubs, swimming pools, screened porch, or even in your garage. As mentioned above, when thinking of indoor and outdoor rugs, most people think of the simple green colored plastic grass mat, but there are actually some really nice rugs that are made specifically for outdoors. This is something that I didn’t realize when we were thinking of putting a mat around our hot tub and pool. The options are much bigger than you thought and you can really get a good looking (elegant) rug for certain areas that add a really nice aesthetic to an outdoor area.

As mentioned above, the most thoughtful outdoor mat is what is known as outdoor marine rugs. When I think of this rug, I go back to being a kid and strolling around the marina on the lake and all the marine rugs everywhere. It always seemed to be discolored and / or ripped and looked horrible. Fortunately, it doesn’t look too bad if it’s kept in good shape and replaced when it wears out. The marine mat is made to withstand constant humidity and retain water instead of letting it run off.

Olefin, or known as polypropylene, is created from synthetic resin. The great thing about olefin is that it is extremely light and stain resistant. Which means it is resistant to stains, fading and mildew. You will often see this mat being used for putting greens in a backyard, on the floor of sheds, and in patios or other outdoor areas. This rug comes in a wide variety of colors and gives you more style and color options than traditional marine rug.
