There are plenty of great temples located in China, but none is bigger than the Temple of Heaven, Beijing. It’s hard to ignore this temple, located in the southern district of Chongwen, about four miles from the epicenter of the city. Although the many temples in Beijing have similar inspiring titles dedicated to the Sun, Moon, and Earth, the height of these buildings is the Temple of Heaven. Built in the untimely 15th century, China’s Temple of Heaven and its environs occupies a region some five times the size of the nearby Forbidden City. The main foundation of the China Temple of Heaven was verified during the harvest season. The rulers rushed to the temple to ask for a better harvest than the previous one. The architecture of the temple is a superb display and comprises four main arrangements: the Hall of Prayer for a Fine Harvest, the majestic Vault of Heaven, the Echo Wall, and the Round Mound Altar.
The Hall of Prayer for the Good Harvest continues on the four large pillars of its axis. Recognized as the pillars of the dragon wall, each one symbolizes one of the four seasons. The walls and ceilings are a mass of protective attic wood bars and corbels and bold colors. The ominous blue ceiling of the Imperial Vault of Heaven is the glow of the second arrangement. The glass tiles that connect to the ceiling lose the Imperial God Pill in the Sky. Therefore, if you are going to book your places on the flights to China, do not miss the opportunity to visit the majestic Temple of Heaven.
The most interesting part of the China Temple of Heaven is its Echo Wall. It surrounds the Vault and is famous for its acoustics. When reflected through the wall, even a whisper 30 meters away is remarkably echoed, as if someone is very close to your ear. Next to the wall is the Altar of Heaven, built entirely of white marble. The altar has four entrances and then nine steps going down in each direction. In the center of the upper terrace resides a circular stone bounded by nine concentric rings of stones.
