The ship, the international waters and the sunsets, yes, we also have it on our list of summer getaways. We’ve packed up and are ready to go on the vacation of a lifetime, but unfortunately, most of us might not be able to enjoy your trip. Half of us will continually get dizzy and vomit and rely on Advil to get through. The rest of us will experience stomachaches, head colds, sunburns, jet lag, and all other kinds of ailments.

It is essential to stay healthy and fit once you are away from home. Remember that every time you go out of your daily routine, let your guard down; your immune system is especially weakened by the new environment around you. The new air, climate, food, and microbes pose a threat to your immune system leading to minor illnesses and health problems. Fortunately, we have prepared a checklist for everyone who intends to travel this year.

1) Keep hydrated – We cannot stress enough about keeping your body full with enough water. While you are sightseeing, sunbathing, or doing day-to-day activities, your body loses water. It’s important to keep sipping water throughout the day to avoid dehydration and its accompanying consequences.

two) Don’t drink the local water – Having said the above, we never recommend drinking the local water or indulging yourself with drinks that are prepared with local water or ice, since your body is not used to it and they can cause problems such as diarrhea, dehydration, vomiting and food poisoning. Take your own bottled and sealed water and snacks off the boat when you leave. Feel free to ask restaurant owners and chefs about the type of water the food was prepared with.

3) Exercise – Most of us let ourselves go on vacation. In our opinion, it is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. The breathtaking views, the new air, and the company around you will take up most of your time, but it’s essential that you take a half-day of your routine and hit the gym. Most cruises are equipped with a proper gym and trainers ready to help you exercise and heave during the voyage. This activity will help refresh your mind and body, help with digestion, and keep you active and fit.

4) Stay away from raw meat and spicy dishes. – It’s honestly hard to stay away from all the delicious and delicious cuisines that the cruise ship has to offer, but remember not to overload your system with too many things that you will later regret. Raw meat, sardines, and our beloved sushi is a big NO! Stay away from overly spicy foods because they can cause gastric problems. Skip the exotic chutneys and dressings and eat as many local fruits and seasonally cooked vegetables as possible.
