Think about it, most of our TV shows are basics or repeats at best. Our movies are all remakes and sequels. Where is the excitement and the unexpected? Sport is the answer. It is where we can go in search of original stories and events that will leave us blind. A final second goal in NHL overtime, or a Cinderella story in the NCAA Tournament. These things keep us on our toes and leave us wanting more when all is said and done.

Our sports stories do not stick to the same plot and plot. Players and coaches are exchanged, good teams don’t always win in the end. Down can be up and vice versa. We can follow players from high school to professionals. But some players’ saga ends in college or their professional careers are interrupted by injury. There is a lot of drama and sadness. Much attachment and character development. More plot twists than your average TV story or movie. Different players step forward at key moments to help their teams achieve victory and glory. Other players drown in adversity when we expect them to shine.

In sports, he is not a fixed villain, he is who you want to turn into the bad guy. One man’s villain is another’s hero. Point and case, Tom Brady, Terrel Owens or Kobe Bryant. Some are amazed and others despise them. People also have favorite teams and create rivalries. This not only adds conflict to our viewing, but also to our interactions with like-minded fans and rival fans. Some people can even choose friendships or who to marry based on team affiliations. A Lakers fan cannot marry a Celtics fan due to tension and conflict. It’s strange to think about it, but I’m sure it happens multiple times.

In any case, sports are there for us, to give us that adrenaline rush when other shows and movies are missing. Whether you’re a fan of football or rugby or even cricket, sports have a following and camaraderie that you can’t find by going to the movies. Some people may say that sports are meaningless. But so would movies and television if you think all entertainment is silly. Sports give boys and girls a way to bond with each other and cheer or boo the teams depending on the situation. There are a lot of people I would never have met if it hadn’t been for sports.
