Weren’t Adam and Eve angelic in the garden?

The Scriptures reveal that they were too human – nephesh in Hebrew – living and mortal creatures that could and did die, without having the opportunity to receive the life of God by the Holy Spirit.

Adam and Eve were given time to make a decision, choose life or choose death, become immortal and divine, or return to dust as if they never existed. God refused to allow them to become immortal (they were no longer immortal) in sin and expelled them from the Garden, deported them for their sins. Why offer eternal life if they already had it?

They were mere mortals with incredible human potential to become divine. They were below the angels but had the opportunity to transcend the angelic plane to the level of Deity.
